You can publish to Mastodon from Ergora's Social Suite. Choose your instance, paste an access token, and the composer can post to your Mastodon account. This guide covers what the connection does today, how to set it up and where its limits are.

What the Mastodon connection does

Once Mastodon is connected, the Social Suite can:

  • Publish a post to your account on the instance you chose, with one image if you attach one. Posts are limited to 500 characters.
  • Publish a thread, with each follow-up posted as a reply to the previous post.
  • Keep a Mastodon-specific version of your copy next to your other channels.
  • Schedule and approve. Posts can be scheduled from the Social Suite calendar or sent for approval to a teammate first, and scheduled posts are published at the time you set.

How to connect Mastodon

  1. In Mastodon, open Preferences, then Development, and create a new application. Give it read, write and push scopes and copy the access token.
  2. In Ergora's Social Suite, open the connections panel, choose Mastodon, enter your instance address (for example mastodon.social) and paste the token.
  3. Ergora checks the credentials with your instance, then Mastodon appears as a destination in the composer.

To disconnect, remove Mastodon in Ergora and revoke the application's token in your Mastodon settings.

What it does not do

Ergora publishes to Mastodon. It does not read from it. It does not read your home timeline, notifications or direct messages, it does not pull engagement figures and it does not monitor hashtags or mentions. It works with instances reachable on the public internet, and you stay in control of the token, which you can revoke at any time.

Writing for Mastodon

Mastodon communities tend to value plain, human posts over promotion. Keep the Mastodon version conversational, say what you are sharing and why, and avoid pasting the same text you use on other channels. Alt text for any image is good practice, so add it where you can before you publish.

What it costs

The Social Suite is part of the Content pack. One seat with the Content pack is from $158 a month ($99 seat plus $59 pack), with 50% off the first month and a 30-day money-back guarantee. There is no free plan. See the pricing page for seat plans and packs. To see what else the Content pack includes, visit Ergora for content or the features overview. The full list of what Ergora connects to is on the integrations page.
